Is ScoliSMART right for my child?

We understand scoliosis is a complicated topic for most parents and patients, but choosing the right treatment approach can feel downright impossible.  Fortunately, we have simplified the process into two parts:

  • Case acceptance
  • Frequency of follow up appointments

The 5-day ScoliSMART BootCamp is recommended for curves measuring less than 40° and the 10-day ScoliSMART BootCamps are recommended for curvatures measuring 40 degrees or more.  The initial Camp is needed to evaluate your child’s response to our specialized equipment and develop the appropriate skills needed to successfully utilize these tools at home. The camps are fun, educational, and painless. Your child will be taught self-application to ensure they are able to perform the prescribed training without assistance.

Every child with scoliosis is unique and requires an individual assessment prior to recommending a course of action that best fits their needs. ScoliSMART doctors provide free consultations and second opinions once you have uploaded your x-rays.

Initial camps, follow-ups, and home care are specific to your child’s needs

Although equipment and procedures may appear similar for each patient, care plans are individualized but often performed in an open group rehab setting.

Which Scoliosis Patients are Good Candidates for the ScoliSMART Approach?

ScoliSMART doctors have determined that scoliosis curves have different characteristics when they progress to approximately 30 degrees. The primary difference with this size of scoliosis is the amount of rotation present, soft tissue changes, and cosmetic deformity. These primary characteristics produce more challenges when applying our treatment approach and require more time in the clinic in order to properly determine the most effective home care equipment to ensure your child avoids further worsening with time between appointments.

The ScoliSMART approach is primarily intended for adolescent and adult patients with idiopathic scoliosis which makes up more than 80% of all cases. Some neuromuscular scoliosis patients may also respond positively to our treatment approach.
